Have you made any new year resolutions this year? I made a pretty long list including things like trying dry brushing and making more juice/veggie smoothies.  One thing I always include in my list, is more ways to be eco-friendly because there are so many things we can do!  The little things really do make a difference, whether it’s just for you or for the entire planet.  So here are just some of the changes you can make in 2011 to be more eco-friendly!

  1. Shop locally.
  2. Make your own chemical-free cleaners. 
  3. Make or buy re-useable bags (grocery, snack, sandwich etc).
  4. Use power strips for things that can ALL be turned off when not in use like printers, phone chargers etc.
  5. Take shorter showers. 
  6. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
  7. Use old magazines or newspapers as packing paper rather than buying packing peanuts.
  8. Plant an herb garden.
  9. Switch to fluorescent light bulbs.
  10. Wash clothes in cold water.
  11. Recycle!
  12. Bring your own mug to places like Starbucks.
  13. Adjust your thermostat- lower in the winter and higher in the summer.
  14. Set your computer to go into “sleep mode” when you are away from it for longer than 15min.
  15. Host “swap parties” where friends can bring movies, clothes etc to trade.
  16. Consume less meat.
  17. Try an organic mouthwash.
  18. Use a low-flow shower head.
  19. Buy organic AND fair-trade.
  20. Buy products with less packaging like non
