Before you start even thinking about how you want to decorate for this year’s Christmas season, do some de-cluttering in your home!
Clutter keeps us from living our lives to the fullest.  It makes us feel bogged down and heavy.  It also looks messy!  Getting rid of clutter is not just about letting go, it’s about creating an environment that will allow you to reach your greatest potential, by freeing your mind and making you realize what’s important in life.
How do you know what to get rid of?  Basically, if you don’t absolutely LOVE it, or NEED it, it should go.  Holding onto anything that doesn’t have a function (be it decorative or practical) in your home, won’t allow you to create space for anything new in your life, be it a new job, opportunity, friend, etc.  We need this flow in our lives.
Here are some photos to get you inspired!
I think the hardest part about de-cluttering is the letting-go.  We become attached to items for all kinds of reasons, and giving them away can be difficult.
Here is one way to deal with the emotional aspect of de-cluttering:
  1. Find a space in your home that you can put a large box in, or just an area that is out of the way (a closet or corner of your garage works well).
  2. Designate this as your Outbox.  This is where you can put things that you no longer need, but are having a hard time parting with.
  3. Once an item has been in the Outbox for a while, (at least one week) it is easier to part with it.  After a week, you can decide whether something is worth keeping, or needs to be disposed of.
  4. If you decide to get rid of something, it then moves to the garbage, recycling or giveaway pile.
This method has proven to be very successful in allowing people to keep their home free from clutter on a regular basis.  Why not give it a try?
